چکیده
W. Stanek, M. Szega Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland L Blacha Silesian University of Technology, Katowice, Poland Metallurgy represents a complex production system of fuel and mineral non-renewable resources transformation. The effectiveness of resource management in metallurgical chains depends on the applied ore grade and on the irreversibility of components of the system. TEC can be applied to measure the influence of metallurgy on the depletion of natural resources. The paper discusses the possibility of application of TEC in metallurgy and presents illustrative example concerning blast-furnace process.

Selection of Numerical Methods and their Application to the Thermo-Ecological Life Cycle Cost of Heat Exchanger Components
Thermo-Ecological Cost with the inclusion of Life Cycle (TEC-LC) is defined as the cumulative exergy consumption of non-renewable natural resources associated with any product and its life cycle, taking into account the necessity to prevent and compensate losses caused by depletion of natural resources and the release of harmful substances into the environment. The problem of collecting data fo...
متن کاملAn exergy-based approach to the joint economic and environmental impact assessment of possible photovoltaic scenarios: a case study at a regional level in Italy
Nearly all energy conversion systems, and especially electricity generation plants do not operate at nominal conditions throughout their useful life: periodic or semi-periodic changes in the availability of the resource affect solar (thermal and PV), wind, hydraulic and geothermal plants, which in reality operate at off-design conditions for most of their life. To a smaller scale, fossil-fuelle...
متن کاملReal-time Sensing of Metallurgical Transformations by Laser-ultrasound
The ability of laser-ultrasound to monitor in real-time metallurgical transformations is reviewed in this paper. Although the technique is appropriate for online industrial materials characterization, this paper addresses laboratory characterization of metallurgical transformations. Examples are presented on the real-time sensing of grain size and grain growth, phase transformation and recrysta...
متن کاملPollution problems in the metallurgical industry: A review
Processing of minerals and production of metals has increased greatly in recent years. As a result, the quantities of waste material and pollutants have also increased. In many cases technology has changed to cope with the problem. Processes have been either modified to decrease emissions, or replaced by others that are less polluting even if at a higher cost. This paper briefly reviews example...
متن کاملEvaluation of Thermo-mechanical stress in work rolls of ring rolling mill under thermal and mechanical loading
The defect in work rolls directly influence the forming cost and the final shape of the product. The researchers tend to investigate the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll of rolling machines. These stresses may reduce the roll life. Since the investigation of the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll with real-conditions is complex, comprehensive studies by means of numerical methods are av...
